Asphalt Milling & Full Depth Reclamation
Platinum Paving provides expert asphalt milling services to restore aging pavement without the cost of a full replacement. By removing the damaged top layer, resolving underlying problems, and applying a new surface, their process improves appearance, enhances drainage, and extends the lifespan of your pavement.
What is Asphalt Milling?
Asphalt milling, also known as cold milling or cold planing, is the process of removing a portion of the existing pavement surface to restore a smooth, uniform texture for reuse or repaving.
Rather than replacing your paved surface entirely, milling allows you to remove the top layer of worn asphalt and put down a fresh, new one in its place. This is a more efficient and affordable method than fully demolishing asphalt.
Our Asphalt Milling Process
Preparation
We scrape and sweep the existing asphalt surface.
Milling
We remove the top layer of the paved surface by grinding it down for later use.
Surface Repair
If we run into any subgrade damage during the process, you can count on us to fix it. We want to provide you with a solid base for your new layer of asphalt.
Application
We properly prepare the milled surface by applying a tack coat so that the new layer of asphalt will adhere to the existing asphalt.
Finishing & Marking
What is Full Depth Reclamation?
Full depth reclamation is a process that involves pulverizing the existing asphalt and base layers in place to form a new foundation for pavement. The reclaimed material is blended, stabilized, and compacted to create a strong, durable base, which is then topped with a new layer of asphalt.
Our Asphalt Reclamation Process
Grind & Blend
Using specialized reclaiming equipment we blend the existing subgrade while adding moisture and compaction to achieve a dense base for new pavements. In some cases, we add cement or lime during mixing to aid promote stability during reclamation.
Top Causes of Pavement Deterioration
The success of any paving project begins with high-quality materials and expert craftsmanship. That’s why it’s essential to use top-tier products, advanced equipment, and experienced professionals who can handle every paving or concrete challenge with precision and care.
Pavement wears and weakens over time because of the following:
